Outdoor Accent Lighting

One form of outdoor accent lighting is the sort of lighting that a gardener might use to highlight certain areas of the garden. Outdoor accent lighting is used to light up areas like the fish pond, a fountain or an especially pretty group of flowers or say a bush that flowers at night. Outdoor accent lighting for the garden is the same idea as the accent lighting used in museums and hotels to show off their objets d'art.

Outdoor Accent Lighting

Outdoor accent lighting should be used to show off a beautiful garden in the evening and at night. I am sure you have seen this form of lighting used to great effect by your local council in public gardens, parks and on the outside of publicly owned buildings. There are several types of outdoor accent lighting and they can be powered by electricity, batteries or solar power. There is, in fact, a wide range of outdoor accent lighting than comes with its own solar panel these days.

Solar powered outdoor accent lighting is particularly handy if it is being used to light up a gateway, a wall or a path. These light will collect and store power during the day and then automatically turn the lamps on at dusk and off at dawn by the use of light sensors.

This form of solar powered outdoor accent lighting is very handy because it saves on electricity and wiring fees and you do not have to remember to switch it on and off every day. The initial outlay is higher, naturally, but you will recoup this money. Imagine how much an electrician would charge to lay armoured cables to a dozen points in your garden!

Another use of outdoor accent lighting is partially for security or / and safety reasons. For example, you could put lights on your gate posts and along the path right up to your front door. This means that you can see nocturnal visitors and they do not trip over any obstacles or bushes hanging over the path. Outdoor accent lighting is great by the pool to show off the beautiful blue water, but it is also useful for stopping people from falling into it.

A fish pond benefits hugely from outdoor accent lighting especially if you leave the fountain running at night. First the lights will highlight the pond to prevent people falling into it; second the lighting will show the pond off, especially a fountain and thirdly, the light will attract bugs that will fall into the water providing free fish food that your fish will enjoy very much.

Outdoor accent lighting comes in different colours as well. Sometimes white is too harsh, but red, green, blue and yellow lights look stunning when played on flowers or bushes at night. The outdoor accent lighting can either be underneath what it is highlighting or behind it, although some people use this form of lighting from the front too. There are so many things that you can do with outdoor accent lighting that you will have to try it out in your own garden and see which colours work best with what you have there.
