Outdoor Wall Lamps
There are many types of outdoor wall lamps, but the one thing that all outdoor wall lamps have in common is that
they are waterproof. You cannot just put any old wall light outside. You could adapt an indoor lamp, but it is far
better to buy purpose-built outdoor wall lamps because then you can be sure that there will be no problems with the
electricity.
Outdoor Wall Lamps
The most common type of outdoor wall lamps are security lamps that come on automatically when an intruder enters
your property. An off-shoot of these security lamps are the kind of low-wattage lights that are used to illuminate
a path or your front and back doors. They can also be used to light up or some other potential hazard in the
dark.
Then there are the outdoor wall lamps that are used just to provide a glow, they are pretty much the same as
night lights in a child's bedroom. You often see these in the form of a lantern with a soft blue light, like they
used to use outside police stations.
Another useful type of outdoor wall lamps are the insect traps. These devices cant be suspended or fixed to a
wall and the ultraviolet lamp attracts airborne insects such as mosquitoes onto its high-voltage wires where they
fry.
Visual Comfort Lighting
Visual comfort lighting can be likened to a night light. Visual comfort lighting is there for reassurance, but
that does not mean to say that it cannot look good. You can use visual comfort lighting in or out of doors. Indoors
visual comfort lighting may be a few wall sconces with dim, glowing lights in the hallway, whereas outdoors visual
comfort lighting could be used to light up the path to your front door in the dark.
Exterior Wall Lighting
Exterior wall lighting can be used for several purposes. The most important reason is security. This type of
exterior wall lighting often comes in the form of floodlights that are controlled by PIR (passive infra red) lights
or movement sensors. Security exterior wall lighting is the most effective way of deterring burglars at night. The
sensors keep this form of exterior wall lighting switched off until it is activated which saves your electricity
costs.
Outdoor Accent Lighting
Outdoor accent lighting is the type of lighting that a gardener uses to highlight certain areas of the garden.
Outdoor accent lighting is used to light up areas like the fish pond, a fountain or a particularly beautiful group
of flowers or a bush. Outdoor accent lighting is the equivalent of the accent lighting used in museums and hotels
to show off their objets d'art.
Exterior Lighting Fixtures
It is extremely important to buy purpose made exterior lighting fixtures when you want to put a light up
outside. The reason for this is that exterior lighting fixtures are made to put up with anything that the weather
can throw at it. Everyone knows that water and electricity do not go well together, but ice and strong sunlight are
bad for anything but proper exterior lighting fixtures too.
